Another vinyl siding question

I have sided my walls almost to the top and I need to put the top piece of siding in the upper J channel. I know they make a punch to hol your last piece in the J channel as long as your cut is on the low side of the siding. Is there any other way of doing it? Maybe silicone the last one or put a screw in it?
Thanks for any suggestions!

You can use undersill trim to finish off the top... you can put it up instead of the J or just put it in the J.

I have also seen people use small stainless screws at the top every so many feet. You can bend up and hold the J channel and run the screws in close to the top so they are not visible.

I would avoid using nails or screws unless you make a slot in the last piece for expansion and contraction. The punch tool also works well

When I install vinyl siding, I use the undersill trim inside the J channel. Use the punch to make some locking tabs about every 16 inches and snap it up in there. You can use small trim nails, but you want to space them further apart and make sure the hole for the nail is slightly bigger than the diameter of the nail to allow for expansion and contraction.

Im just curious, is that how everyone does it in your area or is that just the way you decided to do it ? Ive only seen it put on with roofing nails.

There is a special tip you put on your Paslod staple gune and it holds the staple out so the siding can move a little.
