My father died about 2 years ago and I am in the process of clearing out his shop. One of the things he had was this very old Hobart welding machine. I remember he had it mounted on a trailer he built and it was powered by an old car engine. This thing is very heavy. I know it worked when he dismantled it and put it in his shop probably 35 years ago.

I am trying to dispose of it and was wondering if anyone has any ideas. Are there any forums I could advertise it in where it might attract a buyer. I have no idea what to ask for it. it would seem a shame to just junk it because I doubt there are many around like it anymore.

thanks

That’s a tough one. Without knowing that it works, and what idiosyncrasies it might have, a buyer who intends to use it would probably pass. A collector might buy it, but even then, $100 might be a lot to get for it. I would try marketplace a few weeks and then donate it to Habitat. Otherwise, behold your new albatross.

Those are cool old machines! I'd try to get $100 out of it for a couple of months, but finally take it to scrap.

It looks in good cosmetic condition . I will guess that the value is to collectors like @don long that would use it as a museum pc rather than welding with it.
and value is what someone is willing to pay for it . anything more than scrap value is probably good for you.
but WTF do I know? LOL
