I have been on the look out for a slide hammer kit for a while - not something i desperately needed but had a few projects that it would make easier. I bought a used tool box a few weeks ago and it came with a free Proto slide hammer! Now I need the attachments. I think my hammer has the common 5/8ths thread. It will be used as a puller for bearings and ATV axle shafts. Anybody have a good source for these types of things?

Good ones definitely aren't cheap and cheap ones are seldom good.

OTC makes one of the largest selections of slide hammer accessories.

i'd be looking at pawn shops and flea mkts for what i needed.

i'd be willing to bet a lot of the accessories you'd want arent gonna be an "off the shelf" item.

a lot of my slide hammer stuff is all "custom"

Bought an old slide hammer with weird threads. Rethreaded it to take coupling nuts. Make
what I need. Even welded some old Vise Grips to the coupling nuts. Cheap tool, but it works.

keep your eye on the Ebay listings for "OTC puller" and "Owatonna puller" (one and the same company) and you'll find listings for bits and pieces, or partial pullers.

I'm not a big Harbor Freight person , but they sell a 3 piece rear bearing race removal tool that goes on sale for around $ 25.00. I have also picked up accessories on Ebay.

Thanks - I'll double check the thread but I am pretty sure that 5/8ths thread is the common version, correct?

The cheaper slide hammers, even up to 5 lbs, are using 5/8" thread. The better ones use 7/8" for 5 lbs and larger. Its very easy to break some of the smaller adapters and accessories (typically reserved for pullers) when aggressively using a slide hammer. SD
