I've been lurking for awhile, but this is my first post.
I moved into my a 3 story townhome in the Houston area with a 3 car tandem garage. I do my own maintenance and modifications to my C5 Corvette and plan on picking up another project soon. I'd like to put down a floor that will protect the concrete from any stains and not be too slippery. Originally I was thinking epoxy, but I can't make up my mind. I'm not sure I trust the Rust-Oleum based on user comments. I can get a decent price on ArmorSeal 1000 but I don't like the low solids content. I was thinking about Wolverine but for the cost of materials, supplies, and tools plus my time off work or spreading it out over several weekends, I think it's almost better to pay the $3.50/sq ft for a professional job and have guaranteed results.
But then I stumbled across this product called Star Chip from Star Dek. I've been doing some research, but I can't find much in the way of real life application reviews. I was wondering if anyone had any positive or negative comments on this company, product, or concept. I'll post some of the answers to the questions I've asked my potential installer (quoting $2.45/sq. ft) so far:
We use special spray down concrete that is twice as strong as regular concrete. We spray a 1/4 inch of concrete, while concrete is still wet we spread the chips and then apply two coats of sealer that is mildew, rust, oil, and stain resistant. Below is a 6500 sf retail store we finished yesterday. Also, the coating carries a 10 year warranty.
This system is 8 times stronger than epoxy, you can drive semi's on this surface and we have installed this system on warehouse floors and factory floors. It is a non slip surface because we put non slip impact beads that are smaller than a grain of sand in between the two coats of sealer. Dropping tools won't affect this surface whatsoever. Oil wipes up with rags and a simple spray of simple green and hosed off gets rid of residue. This will still be on your garage floor when your garage is falling down from age.
We have numerous retail stores and garage floors is the Houston area but nothing close to you. Most are west Houston/Katy area. If you are in this area I can make arrangements to show you this system. We use this same spray down concrete to create the stone or brick look, Stardek I, II, and III(see web site) on pool decks, driveways, etc...
This system has been installed on concrete surfaces since 1972.
So, is it a bunch of marketing hype or a legitimate alternative?
Thanks
