Attached Garage interior Light requirement???

Ive been running through NEC and can't find the requirements. But a previous contractor (we are not on speaking terms) told me I needed one. I can't find it anywhere. So here's what I got:

An attached garage addition, Structure is up and im onto wiring. The Garage is attached to my living room, I just cut the door in last week. I was told I need to have a wall switch at this new door that controls the lights in the living room. The previous contractor said I had to turn the existing switch into a 3 way and run a 2nd switch over to the new door. I can not find a code that states that anywhere in the NEC.

Can anyone shed some light on this code?

As I have an outlet right near the new door, can I just run a switch up to it and add a small light on the wall? Just something to pass code or does it have to be the rooms primary lighting? Do I even need a light switch there? Its not really in an area that I would care about having one, and its going to be annoying to add a new switch into an existing exterior block wall that has furring strips and drywall, not the easiest attic access and the top of the block wall is pumped so I can't just drop a line down it easy.

Dave, Thanks for the reply, Ive read through it and all I can figure is I need one switch at an entrance to the room, but theres now going to be 2 entrances. The way I read it I dont see a requirement for a second light switch at the new door, but could be wrong.

You can add a wireless switch to control your lights. This 3 way Leviton and it's companion wireless switch work well in my house.

You need to be able to switch the light(s) on from one location, three way's are not required but if there is more than one entrance, it's crazy not to. 210.11(C)(4) says that the garage requires at least one receptacle outlet per vehicle bay and that they are to be supplied by a 20 amp circuit, which is to have no other outlets. You aren't supposed to feed the lights off of the receptacle circuit. If it's being inspected, it may fail. Then again, some inspectors don't know very much if they are the kind that look at framing, plumbing, HVAC, and electric all at once. An inspector that looks at nothing other than the electrical is going to catch that first thing. And, if you have an exterior door, 210.70(A)(2)(2) says you need an exterior light.

Just want to make sure I understand this correctly. He is saying you need a switch in the garage that will turn on the light in the living room ? So if you are coming in through the garage you will be able to turn on the living room light before you open the door ?

My entry way from the garage is into a hallway and there is a light switch on the wall right inside the house but certainly not in the garage.

There are two rooms in my house that have two entrance doors. Both of them only have one switch for the light. Unless the code has changed recently I dont see it either.
