batery hydrometer

whats a good decent brand "smaller" battery hydrometer that last a bit without the bulb either dry rotted easily?

for checking those sealed lead acid battery on UPSss.. the hole is smaller than the ones used for car batteries....


Not even sure if people even still check their acid levels on batteries any more...

Most of those use AGMs and you can't check the specific gravity.

It's gel cell... the batteries I had is off a large 48v UPSes suppose to be true sine wave, 4x12v in series.... the gels dried out. Not sure what silica gels is for the refill... but the batteries recharge proper, "kinda of" after refilling with just distilled water. guess I just can't use it up side down. but would like to know what is a good brand battery Hydrometer.. most auto store doesn't seems to even carry them... at least the autozone or the crapboys around me doesn't, the ones I had from years ago the bulb just dry rotted out and it was larger......

Gel cells don't take water and you can't test the specific gravity on them.

The needle type that are temperature compensated are the best choice. E-Z Red is one brand I know of that is decent.

Get an ATC refractometer that does coolant and acid. They can be had for under $20 on eBay, and only require two drops of liquid to test.
