Just an FYI if anyone has a Benchmade....
I have had this Benchmade since my last tour in Iraq 2006-07, used the ever living **** out of it for 15 months but did not use it a whole lot since then, I usually just carry and Leatherman.

They offer lifetime recon service, I used the local gun shop to send it in, but they will send you a kit to send it in for free.
Came back like new, SMOOTH as **** and sharp as hell!
It actually peaked my instrest in the auto version of this, anyone have one?

I’ve used the service for my two mini grips several times over the last 20 years.
I had no idea that you could get something to send them in for free.

I've sent both of my Benchmade's in several times over the last 15 plus years for sharpening. They've come back clean and sharp and if you request they will put a replacement pocket clip on as well.

They are both autos and have both served me well. I don't recall the model names, but I'll post pictures of them later today.

@Buckgnarly very cool, and thank you for your service!
Is that the Stryker? I have a North Fork, Crooked River, and a Bugout. All of them are sporting the S30V blade steel.
I have never sent any of mine in, because in my opinion, they remove too much material from the blade's edge. They get it sharp, true. But I guess I am a bit of a snob when it comes to my blades. My coworker showed me his Osborne (940) that he sent back, so I saw and felt the cleaning and sharpening firsthand.
Glad you had such a good experience with them!

It is a Stryker. I was at Cabellas last week and got to try the auto Stryker...REALLY tempted to get it!
I don't think they took much off the blade, just enough to make it REALLY sharp!

America's hat.
I wouldn’t send anything back to benchmade unless it’s for a replacement.

The horror stories of their service dept is haunting.

Glad it worked out for you.

FWIW: a Spyderco sharp maker is a worthy investment.

I have several auto Strykers and they are my favorite model, all-around solid. Lost the first one in the Iraqi desert in 2003 and replaced it with two more as quick as I could because two is one and one is none (learned that one the hard way). Had another sewn into my survival vest as part of my personal weight allowance when I was flying. Almost lost another to security screening at the USS Constitution- should have checked local laws but thankfully the head security screener was a retired Sergeant Major.

I've found the tanto blade a little more challenging to sharpen correctly but it is a great knife for EDC (where allowed).
