Hopefully this is the correct forum.

Im a recent benchmaster custodian

i have a vertical and a partial horizontal mill


has anyone built speed reducers for either and willing to share details?

anyone built a height extension for the vertical to allow for tool holders/rotary tables?

anyone built taller arms for the arbors for the horizontal?

im currently working on a dro for the vertical and will end up doing the horizontal if it works out.

would rather not reinvent the wheel if any of these have been done. Would consider runs…. If people interested in what may end up being made

lets share. These are my two siblings
im interested in what you have built. What is working. Mods. Accessories that you many not want. Those can help me improve on the deficiencies and improve our already amazing mills

Nice little pair. In terms of speed reducing, there's of course the option of using an electronic speed controller or vfd depending on what kind of motor you have, but are you referring to a mechanical speed reducer like a 3rd pulley? The size and spacing of the motor and spindle pulleys is not so different from a lot of the drill presses around here that have low speed pulleys added. There are even a few kits out there but you would likely need to fab some kind of bracket for the middle pulley since they're typically installed on the DP column.

A riser wouldn't be terribly complicated but would need to be pretty beefy and would still probably reduce rigidity some even if done right. Look forward to seeing what you and others come up with.
