Best way to mount a panel to a block wall?

I'm replacing my very overloaded panel in my basement, with a new 200 amp panel. The basement is a concrete block wall, and the current panel is screwed to a small jagged cut off piece of plywood, on an angle, nothing behind it, the ply flat on the concrete, wires everywhere, nothing stapled. Just plain looks like hell.

I'm thinking of tap-conning 2 strips of treated or blu-wood 2x4's, flat against the concrete, then screwing a sheet of treated or blu-wood plywood to the 2x4's, then mounting the new panel to that. I figure it will leave me lots of room to neatly organize and staple my wires to the ply-wood, and when I finish that room, I can frame around that plywood, and close in the panel in a shallow cabinet.

Does this sound like a good way to do this install, or is there a better way?

Approach sounds good; I'd use a couple 1/4"toggle bolts to hold the 2X4 temporarily, and liquid nails or some such between them and block wall.

great if the block walls arn't slugged.

If the walls are slugged, there's always this - doesn't take much to hold the 2X till the adhesive dries:

We would always use ply wood at the electrical contractor for whom I work. As a suggestion, the ply wood panel always fills up quickly with an outlet for the telephone transformer....you might have cable equipment, etc. hey, make the piece of ply wood larger than you think you need.

I was planning to make it pretty damn big, even if I don't fill it up with cable tv or telephone stuff, I can at least use the space to very neatly organize my wires.

That's what is done here at work in the old buildings. Any panels, mounts, network, etc going on a solid wall (brick, stucco, concrete, etc) is attached to a 3/4 ply backer that is tapconned to the wall.
