these are some pics of a 750hp motor soft start and control panel i installed recently. the motors pump water to reservoirs to serve the public. all motors over 10hp are required to have soft starts installed so they don't cause power disturbances during starting and stopping. these units also use power factor correction capacitors to keep the poco and our power bill happy.

Wow, thats some big stuff.
Surprised there is no overhead crane above to service any of the pumps and motors.

Also, keep hearing of the water shortages down that way. Those pumps probably are not helping with the water levels.

you can't see them in the pictures but there are roof hatches above each pump that allow a heavy crane to lift them directly out of the building.

we are in a drought here but las vegas uses less than 2% of the colorado river flow. we are the #1 city for water conservation also. we actually paid people to go to desert landscaping and we have a tiered billing system that rewards less use and increases costs to heavy users. hopefully the drought will break soon and california, arizona and mexico won't be in such bad straights

I work on a lot of water/wastewater plant design; 250hp motors are about as big as I see in my area, but otherwise the pump stations look the same - just smaller.

I work for a company thats doing some work to pump stations down here in hurricane territory. Big CAT and WPI diesel motors. CAT rated at about 440HP. not sure what the WPI is rated at. The flow rate on the WPI is 70,000gpm. the CAT is around 45k.

At our datacenter we have 3 1.5mw generators, and 3 UPS rooms. The switchgear and UPS rooms are pretty impressive. Standing in front of a 4000A breaker gives one a little bit of the willies. Love to take pics but can't.

Motors are 480 volts, you'll have to wait for the OP, maybe he will post a pic of the motor data plate.

Very clean install, good job. Wish I had some pictures of the larger stuff I've done. Two largest to date where a 3500 and 5000, but medium voltage (4160).

thanks guys. the full load amps on those motors is in the 800a range at 480vac. really that station should have been built 4160 vac but the leadership at the time was scared of it. we now have another facility on the sewer side that uses 4160.
