Big *** LED highbay shop lights

Hello All,

Just recently installed 6 of the newer big *** brand high bay shop lights in a new garage. The garage is 24' wide by 48' deep. It is tall...16' foot interior walls. Question is after turning these lights on....it's bright!! Each fixture is approx. 14,000 lumens! I like a lot of light...but am I going to hurt my vision with all that light? Any protocols with led lighting that is measurable or dangerous to vision?

All six are on one switch...no dimmer. Thoughts? I'll try to post an image or two of the interior. Thanks for any feedback..

I would love to try these myself, my PB will have 12' ceilings (Not sure if this is the correct light for my application), but I am getting ready to wire one for my buddy, this one has 16'-18' ceiling, I drove by to check it out this week, still not done, but I think the ceiling height there would be good, if I can talk him into trying these lights. Post a pic or two if you can.

What you are experiencing is glair. It isn’t too much light for the area as you’re achieving about 50fc, it’s too much concentrated lumens. The 50fc general room illumination level negatively contrasts with the visible high output light fixtures causing eye strain, fatigue, and headaches. It’s about time that people wake up to the fact the more lumens per fixture is not better. More fixtures with lower lumen output is the right way.

For 1/4 the cost you could have installed Qty.8 of 8ft 4lamp tandem F32T8 Fluorescents and you’d have better light distribution, more light on the ground, and no glair issues.

I personally like the 4ft lights because they look so much more modern. The 8ft lights are really outdated. I don't know why you would get the big *** brand when you could go with a much cheaper fixture that puts out the same lumens. After looking at the truck running over a big *** light fixture and it not bending, I have to ask myself why does something hanging from the ceiling need to be strong enough to get ran over by a truck?
Just looks like extra cost without extra value to me.

Basically it sounds like you have created HOT SPOTS with the lights, which is very irritating to the eyes.

The lights are perfectly safe. They're just like fluorescents except with more glare because they don't spread the light around as well. Also they're not as bright, and way more expensive, and when they fail you won't be able to replace them.

There are two different GW Productions on Youtube. This one seems to be somewhat auto related.

The other one is Golden Waterfall, but uses the name GW Porductions also, appears to be European located.
