Black/WHite VCT tiles for checkerboard design

After reading posts on this forum, I've decided to go with Armstrong VCT on my floor. I want to do a black/white checkerboard. From what I have seen here, the Classic Black (51910) and Classic White (51911) are what is being used.

Both these colors have patterns in them and are not "true" solid black or solid white. Has anyone seen a VCT tile which is solid color? I prefer the solid color look, but maybe that is not made by Armstrong?

Hi dooger54! The Classic line from Armstrong is not a true solid and I understand the look you want to create would be more dynamic if the black and white were solids. Have you considered the Excelon Feature Tile & Strip series from Armstrong? Look at 56790 Black I and 56830 Chalk II (both available in 12 in x 12 in x 1/8 in). Nice info. I am planning on doing my Garage the same way. I could only find the Black and White tile at Sutherlands. Home depot and Lowes dont carry it.

I've seen the Excelon tile on the Armstong site, but wasn't sure they were readily available. I've not seen anyone using them here, and have not found them in any store. Anyone know if anywhere like Lowes or HD can get them?

I'll have to check out the Azrock brand. Anyone used them? Good results?

I checked into that. You can special order them from Armstrong(don't let them tell you they don't have it), but were 3 times the price.
I went with the regular stuff.

Ouch on the price! Maybe I'll just stick with the regular. Maybe that's why nobody uses the true colors!

Any solid color is going to be expensive. Solids will run in the $95-110 a carton range. So at 45sf/crt, you can see how it adds up.
