Blue-Point Retaining Ring Pliers

I picked up a set of Blue-Point Retaining Ring Pliers (with interchangeable tips) about a year ago, so I figured I would do a review. They go for $32.40 USD, and are worth every penny in my opinion. For that price you get two retaining ring pliers; one for internal retaining rings, and one for external retaining rings, in a clear plastic case. The kit also includes a tip kit in a small plastic box with four sets of four tips (each set is different), with sixteen tips in total. This means you can use the same style of tip on both pliers at the same time. It came with two sets of straight tips (different sizes), one set of 45 degree tips, and one set of 90 degree tips. Tips are changed very easily via one screw holding each tip on. I broke three pairs of different retaining ring pliers before I got these, but these are extremely strong. I have also used them for applications other than retaining rings, and they hold up no matter what. These were made in the USA, and I would highly recommend them for anybody looking for good, strong, made in the USA internal and external retaining ring pliers at a reasonable price.

i had one that it will do both internal and external in one plier with change bits that craftsman sell for 24.99 dollars. it service me really good but my auto mechanic teacher at high school just sold me lot of snap on pliers to do transmissions working (rebuilding or replace) much less than tool truck because he said it service him really good but he just dont want let it sit and do nothing so he sold me for cheap price.

That was the very first item I bought from Snap-On around 1979 or 1980, I still have them, I have never had any complaints with them.

I have a Snap-On snap-ring tool that's switchable between internal and external; there's a cam thingy in the hinge. It doesn't have replaceable tips though. It's awesome for large-ish snap rings. I got it from my buddy so I have no idea how old it is, but he quit wrenching professionally over ten years ago.

There's a Craftsman version that's switchable also, with interchangeable tips, but the internal/external switching mechanism is a royal PITA; the tips have to be perfectly centered first, and each arm has its own little lever. If the tips aren't centered the levers won't move, and it's really finicky. You're better off having separate internal and external pliers than that POJ.

Tips can be changed in about ten seconds. Loosen the screw, slide the old tip out, slide the new one in, and tighten. And it certainly is nice having internal AND external. I am also familiar with the Snap-On ones you speak of. They are also very nice, but you lose tip and angle adjustment. I'll take a set of these any day.
