im looking to build a new garage and im looking between bole barn or stick construction. found a local lumber yard that sells kits and a 24x32 pole barn is in the same price range as a 26x30 stick build. the stick build will need a full footer foundation city code. this will be my backyard car shop. im looking for pros and cons of these two building types to help make my decision.

I think that you'll find the stick built easier to finnish out inside if your looking for that. The pole building that I have is a bit cheaper as there is not near as much labor and construction to put it up. Make sure that you have all costs of construction in your build and not just the materials list.

Water would be my largest concern with a pole barn. With a footer and foundation, your walls are up away from the floor and dry. With a pole barn, the floor is poured last and up against wood when poured. Then like Larry G states, it's easier to finish the inside of a stick built over a pole barn.

I personaly think a stick built is the better choice and their are other threads on here about stick built vs pole barn. Easier to finish out a stick built and insulate the stud bays. You would still stud out the ten foot sections and then it would cost more than stick built.

Make sure you compare apples with apples because I have found that pole barns are not any dearer than stick build when you take concrete etc into account. Figure out FIRST how you want to finish the inside. THEN compare pricing.

I am finishing the inside of my pole garage now. Used spray foam insulation. Installed rough cut 3" wide horizontal nailers 24" oc and than applied 10' sheetrock vertically. Eliminated all but joints. very little time to install the nailers; and cheap.

Pole barns offer a lot of bang for the buck, but they are not going to be as permanent as a building with a foundation. I am already planning on pouring the slab for mine in such a way that I could build a stud wall over it in the future.
Won't be needed in my lifetime I am sure, but if you have grandchildren it could come into play.
