Hi folks. Found a 16 in. brass rod that's threaded on one end and hollow with a grip impression on the center. Can someone please tell me what it's used for? 20241022_142444.jpg20241022_142356.jpg20241022_142335.jpg

I'm not at all technical so thread pitch and diameter is out of the question for me. Sorry.

Is that pipe thread on the end? Might have been a handle for something.

My big @$$ Milwaukee drills use 3/4" pipe, 16" or so long, pipe thread on one end, knurled grip texture at the other. This end is rounded off a bit to save your hand.

Are you sure it's brass, and not just brass colored?

Yeah, but those are MNPT--his is female.

BTW: I never knew there was a factory handle for the big Milwaukees! Every one I owned or used had just a piece of threaded pipe for the side handle. Wrapped in friction tape if you felt fancy.

I just see a fuzzy cylindrical shape, no threads on my phone

Check out this older parts list

Slightly newer ones showed a bicycle handlebar grip.

When I saw this rusty length of pipe, I knew it's function immediately.

-Maybe it's my eyes but it doesn't look like brass to me due to the color of the rod and the oxidation (rust?) on it. What it resembles, to me, is an extension for a measuring instrument. I have an inside micrometer that uses extensions like this, when assembled, to reach a desired length. The knurl is to facilitate threading the rod onto whatever it's used for. JMO

@RTM : That part is obsolete and no longer available. I guess I'll just have to retire my old gear-reduction drills. ;)

Wisely, the use of the 3/4" FNPT threads means it won't be truly obsolete until the last threaded ****** in 3/4" MNPT is gone--unlike a lot of my more modern drills and angle grinders, each of which uses a distinct threading so the handles aren't interchangeable. Yes, I can and have used bolts or all-thread of the right size and threads to make my own handles, but far from as easy as grabbing a chunk of pipe from the boneyard.

No, that wasn't an unscheduled rapid disassembly event (NASA for "it done blowed up").

Gotta love that bit

I have one drill I still need a wrap around handle for. Bought several at GS, hoping one fits. At $1 each, not too worried.

Fortunately MKE seems standard.

I'm thinking it might be an extension handle for a dial bore gauge or something similar. This is assuming that the OD of the rod is near a 1/4" or so.

On edit I see Ronin has made a similar suggestion.
