Breaker box and sink?

What should be the minimum distance between a breaker box and a sink? For me, it would be easier and cheaper for them both to be near each other, but still about 3 feet apart on opposite sides of a doorway. Is this acceptable.

You need to have a clear working space 30 inches wide and 36 inches deep in front of the panel (42 inches deep if there are grounded parts on the back side of the space - this includes concrete walls, metal pipes, etc.) As long as the sink is outside that space you should be fine.

Stuart gave you the numbers, but it sounds me like the sink is to the side of the panel, like on the same wall? If that is so then not a problem. There is also a requirement that the 36" clearence be from floor to some given height above your head.

Imagine a box that is 36" deep from the front of the panelboard out, and 30 inches wide, but does not have to be centered on the panel, just that it include all of the panel width, and that the box is 2 meters high (about 6 ft 6 in). That is the area that has to be free and clear of obstructions (though its perfectly OK if a door swings over the front of the panel, if it can be moved out of the way to access the panel.

Distance requirements from sinks are in relation to electric receptacles. If located within a specified distance of the sink, tub, etc, then they have to be GFCI.
