Most times when I see a tool name I can say yes I remember that name but because there are so many names I am still learning some new names from long ago that have not come to light for some time.
Recently I picked up the following half hatchet at a garage sale that was stamped Briar Edge Service Tools and after a good long search I found several people selling them as "Rare" which I found rather unique. Too make a long story short I found the company that made them and I made a phone call; the women on the other end in Pennsylvania was laughing so hard (as I thought she would) when I gave her the date of 05/19/ 66, when she said "I was still in high school I must be rare".
I think the Ebay buzz word should say "Vintage" as these were made by the boat load and mine only set me back $2.00 dollars.
So with long ado these were made by True Temper the trademark date was Thursday May 19th 1966 and the trademark expired on 09/06/87.
Hope you enjoy the links and the pictures, just another tool to look out for in your tool hunts.
