Thought I'd resurrect one of these broken tool threads since I broke my 10 lbs sledge last night, breaking apart an engine block for my cast iron stash. Got about half the water jacket and cylinders smashed in when the hammer head took off across the garage

Why smash up an engine block? Unless it is huge I would think it's easier to move them around whole

To cast with at home. Smash the bits up small and they melt quicker.

I broke the drive end off my 3/8 Snappy FHL80 ratchet, no cheater. No pics, got that replaced a few years ago. Just broke my 33" Craftsman indexing head prybar 2 days ago, stripped the teeth right out. It's in my truck, taking it to sears tomorrow, not much to see other than it doesnt lock.

I just caveman my hammers with paracord when the handles get loose because I'm too lazy to replace (or at least shim) the handles. Actually works well believe it or not. I had to do it with a wood handled drilling hammer before (had to finish the job before returning it to home depot for a new one; went with a fiberglass handle and it's served me well). I'm not talking high quality stuff here. (hehe)

Re the stuck bolt in the BMW, I know the bolt is out now ,but for the future,when you come across a situation like this.
It helps to have all the rest of the bolts done up tight , it takes the pressure of the stuck bolt, every little helps so copper grease all the rest and you can get few extra pounds of pressure on the wheel, in my experience this works a treat

Stuck lug nut. No pics, did not break a tool, was not successful in removing lugnut, but did get the people on the road.

Stopped to help a young couple who turned out to be mute and hearing impaired. Vehicle was a jeep SUV with aluminum wheels. One lug nut was tight on the stud but had been backed out maybe 1/4 inch. Stud was loose in the hub and would back out enough so the back of the stud would hit part of the suspension. I could not get to the back of the stud to hold it with Visegrips. Decided that the issue was to get them on the road, not to fix the loose stud. (No problem with the tire) I took some wire and wrapped it aroung the stud between the lug nut and the wheel which drew up the stud enough to keep it from hitting anything and they went on their way.

Question: How would a mechanic in a shop fix tis without damaging the wheel? Possibly remove the hub which would give enough space to cut the end of the stud off? Possibly the hub was ruined anyway by having the hole enlarged. I fixed one on a farm trailer where the stud was barely slipping by getting a new stud with sharp splines
which held tight enough to tighten the nut and I have a vague memory of putting epoxy glue on another stud and tightening the nut for the glue to set.

Before applying any heat to the situation, I would let all the air out of the tire and leave the valve stem out, remembering the video of a wheel heating up from just a little heat and building up pressure to blow up the tire.

This yea, there was a little tool breakage,

SO number 2 Philips
SO 12,18 and 24 in striking prybars, (cold -20 or worse makes the handles break) no problem with warranty. The 12inch was abuse but we wont tell the dealer....
Husky 18 ratchet.
SO 3 inch 1/2 drive impact. CAT D7 drain plug was over torqued. A lot.
1 5/16 socket westward.
1 5/8 no name china (cutting edge bolts.)

Boker Bent needle nose pliers.

Tried to get a t40 bolt out, broke 2 tools.... I had to use my knipex cobras to get it out. I then when out and bough a pack of hex head bolts to replace the oem torx headed bolts.
