Buffalo angle rollers / gear driven rollers

I just got into auctions and it's pretty cool to see some machines go for almost nothing, although I know sometimes you get really clapped out stuff. One of the things I wasn't paying attention to was a set of old Buffalo number three angle rollers, and nobody bid on it. I asked a buddy who is pretty on the up and up on old machinery and he said it sucked because it was gear driven. I don't know anything about rollers but I'd like to be enlightened on what else is there other than gear driven rollers, and if that was a smoking deal I should have got( had lots of tooling)
