The last thing I expected to find out when I searched GJ looking for a place to post this was that there was no posting of an Allway Saw on the GJ vintage board! These are the most common stub or close quarter cutoff saws I see in old toolboxes. I usually don't pick them up because they're later. This is the first early one I have seen that had a blade in it. I know Old Radar found one of these with extra blades last year. He must not have posted it anywhere past the Garage Sale thread.

Made by Ultra Manufacturing in NY. These were first patented (2,017,895) in 1935. An improvement to keep the blade from bucking off in use (2,137,800) came in 1938, which is when it was TM'd (first use 1936) and the ads really started.

I picked up one of the "later" (than the earlier c. 1935 above) 'Master' models with the c. 1938 rubber pistol grips this morning. You can barely make out the 'UNBREAKABLE' boast on the handle under the 'ALLWAY MASTER' and the patent number.

I found some extra blades for my smaller Allway this morning at the flea market. Same vintage, with the 1938 patent number on it.
