It was hot, but not unbearable. We started early, it was muggy but we eased into the heat. Im not a fan of being inside all day then trying to go out in the heat of the day to play. That is miserable. We stayed hydrated and kept towels wet. I grabbed a few of the hand towels from the lodging and used them as cooling towels. Then just brought them back each night to be laundered. I also have a fan to keep a constant breeze.Looks like an awesome trip. Those are some great scores, and an even better one to finish it off. I can't imagine playing that many rounds in that heat. This former northerner doesn't do well in that much heat. I have been struggling to play well in my 9 hole Monday league this year with the heat.
Mid South looks great so maybe we will have to add that to our next trip. I am a big fan of Legacy GC. We played there when they were in the middle of the renovation, and I thought it was really nice. I can't wait to play it now that they are done. For $36 I would definitely replay as well. I know a lot of people really like the new layout at Talamore, but I am one of the ones that misses the old design or, better yet, would have loved to see a combination of both. None the less is always in great shape and I think we played it every year we have gone except this last trip. We are going up to the Pittsburgh area and eastern Ohio for our golf trip next year, so adding a couple of those courses will have to wait a year. Does your group do one or two trips a year?
Mid South is a great course. You should definitely add it to the trip. Its not a difficult course, but its not easy either. Its one of those where the more you play it the better you play, or at least know where to hit the ball!
Legacy's updates are very well done. My only issue was one of the best holes there was 16 a par 5 with a little creek near the green. That hole is now a par 4 with a very different green complex. They took out the creek all together and filled the low area by expanding the pond. Also, 18 was a par 4, but now its a par 5. They lengthened the tee area and expanded the landing fairway. Hole 8 used to be an iron off the tee with a forced carry over a large waste area. Now you can just bomb it off of the tee with no consequence. They are adding a halfway house so you dont have to drive up to the clubhouse. There is a temporary one there now. It also looks like they are adding some 19th holes, little pitch and putts with greens and turf tees. Maybe they are just short game practice areas.
I do 3 trips, all with different groups. One group of guys that I went to college with and worked with out of school, which is my August trip (20 of us). Another of local guys that I play with on the weekends, usually in Feb/March(40+ guys). And another with a buddy who I met from that group who needed one spot filled and I have been invited back. That one moves around.
