After a long delay, a quick update. BTW panel is within site of the grinder. I spent a few hours this weekend building a control station for between the VFD and the grinder. I have momentary switches for on, off, emergency off, and a potentiometer. After some troubleshooting using the three wire method, I have all functions working, but the emergency stop is not doing what I thought it would do. In the VFD manual, I can program it to do a "rapid stop" by setting that S5 terminal to parameter 14. After doing so, pressing the emergency stop button turns off the grinder, but it does so the same way as the regular off (red button). Is this correct? The only difference is that when you hit the emergency stop button, the VFD flashes E/S (Emergency Stop), and cannot be restarted again until you hit the regular red button. I can live with all this, but wondering if I am missing something? I know I have to clean up the wiring....
Next will be to try the original Allen Bradley switch to power on/off the VFD so it isn't constantly on.
I'm amazed at how smooth and quiet the grinder is. Should I have the max speed set to 60Hz? IMG_4080.jpeg

Check your manual... the braking effort is generally programmable. Since the grinders probably weren't designed for reverse torque from the motor, be careful about loosening the retaining nuts w/ excessive braking effort. I remember these units taking minutes to slow down...

Sorry to be harsh, but that exposed wiring looks like ****, the VFD should be in a enclosure.

Perhaps he's verifying that things work correctly before putting it all in a box where things are harder to change.
It looks like typical DIY VFD install, have described it as like mounting a receptacle by driving a couple of nails in a stud & bending the nails over before.

Great point. It actually stops much sooner than I would expect, given the mass of these wheels, so I can't complain.
