Capacitor location

Hey all,

I have this model heat pump branded as a Payne. It will not start but it will run, if I start the fan myself. I am thinking it is the capacitor. This capacitor has the right specs and is listed as compatible with the OEM part number. The problem is that I cannot see a capacitor anywhere on the unit. The last units I worked on, the capacitor was out in the open. Not the case here. Any suggestions?

Condenser fan motor uses a three terminal capacitor common, fan and compressor terminals. Take a pick of the wiring before changing it out. With power off for 10 minutes take a plastic handle screw driver go to terminals to ground before dis connecting any wires.

Some of the older, smaller fan motors were shaded pole and do not have capacitors.

The starting torque on a shaded pole motor is very low so if the bearings are worn it might not start but it'll run ok.

Thanks for the responses. I found the capacitor location, replaced the capacitor and have AC again.
