CFL's too bright to the eye, light fixture or diffuser?

I am planning to buy a few of these in either 85w or 105w bright white:

The problem is they are too bright to look directly at. Too intense. I found these diffusers, but they only cover the bottom, and not the sides:

Any ideas on a diffuser, or a fixture for these very large bulbs?

Buy them in a lower wattage or just dont look directly at them.

There are a host of CFLs that come with those already, ranging from 65W to 120W+. I would suggest going to Costco if you are a member (or paying cash with someone else's card) if you are in Ohio, as the AEP is subsidizing them there now.

A 4 pack cost me 99 cents. I saw a 25% reduction in my electric bill

What's wrong with the top only diffuser? The rest of the light isn't really in a direct shot to your eyes, and should just disperse around the room.

Also, where are these located that you're looking INTO them?

Here is what I see when I walk into and around the garage (pic below). The 8 foot HO lighting is soft enough to the eye. I want to replace the old school bulbs you see with HO CFLs (for those who posted about lower wattage, they don't put out enough like, I want 85watt or more CFL, which is like 300W plus equivalent).

As a side note, I replaced the old bulbs last night with 100w equivalent CFL's and they were harsh enough at only that wattage to lead me to ask this question.

Those bottom only diffusers would not cover much of what I would see such as in the picture:
