charger setting for electrolysis

I've been using electrolysis for several years now. I'm always a little puzzled by the amp's... I have a 5 gal bucket with 4 rebar all wired snug. If I wire brush the rebar and fire up the charger I can see 3-6 amps initially but it quickly drops down to negligible on the ammeter. I see some bubbling and very rarely see brown foaming like I see in pictures.

My charger (older Schauer) has 3 settings, Conventional, Manual and Maintenance Free.

1... Would one setting be better than the other for de-rusting?

2... What is the amperage that is typical? One article I read said it's ok to use a charger of 6-10 amps but bigger is better.

Buddy: There is a big thread in general tools section named homemade electrolysis. If you don't find your answers there might I suggest asking your question there. Some guys like low amps or use CPU power supplies. Hope that helps.
