Cheap & Practical Floor Mats

When I converted my barn into a shop, I left the stall mats in place and purchased 10 more to finish off the work area. I got 4' X 6' x 7/8" thick through out the work area. They're also available in 4' X 8 and 5' X 10' sizes. You can cut them with a utility knife and a straight edge. Have plenty of spare blades on hand. You can taper the edges for door ways with a die grinder or belt sander. My installation is wall to wall.

They're made of recycled tires and used in stalls and horse trailers. Price was $35.00 per mat (24 sq ft) on sale. Takes two men and a baby jackass to move them around. The trick is using a couple of vice grips as "handles". You can get them at Tractor Supply, Big R or the local co-op.

I've been trying to find something to use on top of my epoxy floor as a mat in front of the workbench and at the door to the house. Looks like I found my answer. Gives me a reason to go into the new Tractor Supply that opened down the road from my house. Here's a link for the mats at TSC:

I have decided to build a garage gym in one corner of my garage and wanted to put these down.
Do you think they are tough enough to park a boat on? Recycled tires ought to be tough enough I would think. Anyone have any experience parking anything on these.

I have two 12' X 12' stalls with mats that have been down for 11 years housing shod horses and there's nary a mark! Same in the trailer. I have a Back Yard Buddy sitting on these mats with another car parked under.

Anyone know how this stuff responds to oil? I picked up an excersize mat, maybe 4x6 from a garage sale and used it for the driveway under the kids car. After oil leaked on it in the same spot for a while (not a major leak, just drips) the mat "humped-up" in that spot. Cars gone but I still have the mat. The material is a heavy rubber, maybe 1/2" thick with a diamond plate pattern on one side. I'd take a pic, but no digital camera right now.

From Rt 30, go south on Rt 41 a few miles. It's on the east side of 41 in St. John, IN in between Strack & Van Til / Target and Auburn Supply. It's set back from the road a little ways on top of the hill.
