These weigh about 3000 lbs. Has cat 40 spindle. Nice heavy machine, but who knows what's wrong w/ this one. It was parked outside for a reason.

They are excellent mills. Much better than a series one Bridgeport. Much stiffer

Some have nmtb taper 40 spindles and unfortunately other have Brown and sharpe # 7 spindles.

They are not Cat 40 but National Machine Tool Builders 40 taper. The taper part is identical but the method the drawbar pulls them in is different.

The cat 40 uses a changeable pull stud and the NMTB 40 uses an integral internal thread that sets behind the taper for A male threaded drawbar to pull it in.

Toolmaster would be a nice one for a small shop, but not worth a road trip to CA for one in that shape....Now a pristine and well tooled one would be a bit different matter.

There looks to be a decent Gorton Vertical/Horizontal for sale over in Dallas at an attractive price if you can deal with a combo unit.

Had a toolmaster in a shop I worked in years ago. The big problem was the gearing in the head was really light duty.

-Disappointing to see a nice machine like that set out to pasture to quietly rust in the setting sun. They used to be a well regarded machine, I've only run one or two in my decades of machine shop work. In the current condition it looks like a full tear down project, as LopezBart posted it was set outside for a reason. Better be darn near or below scrap value price to be worth the road trip. Spindle taper config would also be an issue, perhaps why that brand wasn't as popular. Even a better design doesn't mean it's a better buy, ask Deckel owners about that when they replace parts.
