The 29.99 HF special I bought six or seven years ago for work is finally giving up the ghost. It was bought to clean up the mess in a basement. Filled a van up twice cutting up everything from old packing crates to solid core doors. All in pieces that would fit in my wood stove.
After that it cut up non standard pallets that no one wanted, most with solid plywood surfaces. Well over 100, probably 150.
Pretty sure I got my $30 out of it.

I've never seen a power tool of any type in our Habitat store. The only ones I have seen at yard sales were only good as door stops.

Mao Mart has this one with 2 day shipping for under $30.

I was just at an estate sale a couple of days ago. There was a B&D there you probably could have got for $10 tops. You should have seen the pile of stuff I got for $50. The fishing tackle I got was easily worth the cash alone. The sad thing was out of the four boys none had any interest in their Dad's stuff. Their dad moved into a home on his own and told them to sell it all and don't wast any time doing it. There was every thing from reloading equipment, hunting, fishing, mechanics all the things an old school guy accumulates by the time he is 80+. He sounded like a pretty cool old fella. Found the ad on Kijiji while looking for old service station stuff.

That even comes with an OK blade. Probably much better than most guys who buy a cheap saw would spend for.

Pawn Shop - my local one has a whole shelf of circular saws. There's usually a few good ones, mixed in with a bunch of junk.

dont think i paid more than $50 for it, put a diablo blade on it and it cuts fine.

I was about to post this. The Porter Cable is by far the best new saw you will likely find in that price range.

Thanks guys. Locally, second hand stores, craigslist, etc are no goes as the prices for used stuff is near new prices. So I will just take a deep breath and buy something from the big stores such as the porter cable
saw. Prices on some just don't justify buying cheap.

I got damn lucky at an auction one time and got a DeWalt circular saw for $20. It was brand new, never used with 3 new DeWalt blades.
Just a good tool purchase story, but I would just go get a cheap box store one and use the **** out of it if I was you.

I'm still using the Ryobi I was given 10 years ago and it's still working great, probably $30 or $40 at the time. Ryobi was still blue and yellow, hadn't changed to the awful lime green yet.

Must be a CA thing - around here circular saws are a garage/estate sale staple, and supply greatly exceeds demand. Sure you'll get the occasional idiot trying to sell a HF model for $50, but I wouldn't pay more than $10 for a good old USA made one and my last one (an old B&D built like a tank) was $5. Can also find blades cheap as well (either thrown in with saw for free or $1 or so a piece).
