Has anyone had luck simply cleaning/scrubbing the concrete floor and applying a sealer? i have a 35 year old shop floor with the average spills, stains and cracks (not bad) that i'd like to spruce up for Cheap. I'm thinking about simply renting the rotary type scrubber and cleaning as best as possible - then coming back with a clear sealer of some type. Thought long and hard about stains and epoxy, but just don't know if i want to put the time, effort and cash into that. I like the looks of the looks of polished concrete and realize i wouldn't be to that level, but would be somewhat similar in color and looks. Thoughts and comments appreciated.....

Sure - plenty of clients - both DIY and commercial, just clean and seal.

Our sealer, AcryliSeal 3501, is being used by a major retailer outside for their entrance ways. While we suggest prepping the floor with the same methods used for an epoxy system, they decided to go for a quicker, simpler route. Essentially they just did a good cleaning: pressure wash & scrubbing with a floor polisher (the low speed type available at a lot of hardware stores for $30/day or so).

Their thinking is that since AcryliSeal is inexpensive it's more cost effective for them to do the quick clean and install, and after a few years just recoat again. It's possible that the coating may have lasted a bit longer had they fully prepped (with a grind or acid etch), but that would have cost them more labor, and it would have taken longer. This way the crew does the entire job after the stores close, and they're cleaned up and gone, and the floor is ready to use, before the doors open the next day.

Remember that if they do need to freshen up after some years there won't be any grinding or other difficult prep involved, again just another quick cleaning and apply the AcryliSeal.
