That's a fair price for a CM with fresh bearings. I paid $25 for a much rougher 1/3 HP Model 115.7566, in the fall of 2009.

From the pictures, it looks like it never had the wheel guard covers (no sign of tapped mounting holes).

It will need stones/wheels, arbor spacers, and grinding/wire wheel flanges.

BTW - these (Models w/ 115. prefixes) pre-date the Block grinders. "The "Block Motor" grinder can be readily identified by the Sears manufacturer prefix of 397 or 257 (as in 397.XXXXX); which is stamped on the front label. Popular models include 1/4HP, 1/3HP, 1/2HP, 3/4HP, and 1.0HP Industrial units."

That one is a long ways out of Chicago so it might linger a while. For most of Chicago metro area that would be > a one hour drive.

If the bearings are new then yes, it's a nice buy. Easy enough to scuff the paint, mask off where you need to, and give it a shiny new coat. The eye guards are solid, two pane glass, much better than the plastic stuff that followed.

I would try to get him down maybe $10.00 but in reality, if I lived in the area, I would have it in my garage by now.

"A point of clarification. Sears sold many "block motor" designed grinders from several manufacturers, but the block design must be considered secondary. Of primary concern is the manufacturer. The best engineered, most durable, and desirable "Block Motor" grinders were made by Paramount/Allegretti & Co. These grinders have the 397 or 257 serial number prefixes.

Overall, the "Block Motor" designs were also made by Rixon, Royal, and B&D -- just to name a few. These grinders do not have the higher quality field windings and castings that the Paramount/Allegretti units had."
