Cold weather interior lighting options

Many of you may remember that my eventual end plan is to utilize the Liftmaster remote lighting unit to power up some alternative lighting in the the garage...installing those Ceiling Warts doesnt really appeal to me. All along I was going to install a 4' Flourecent fixture and power it with the remote light unit. BUT last night I got to second guessing that decision.

I dont mind waiting for the lights to warm up if I'm going in there to work...usually takes me the same amount of time to get my radio fired up, mental evaluation of the task at hand, etc... but on something like the garage door light by nature of its use will only be on for 5 minutes at a time anyways, I'd need/want something instantly bright.

Anybody have any ideas as to a nice LED fixture or what have you? Something which would be bright enough to be a Garage Door Opener Light.

Was just in HD and they have these 3-led worklights that are blazingly bright. By "three" I mean three sections, they unfold like a stage light. $100. You could use just the head and skip the tripod, I figure, or use the tripod mount and a little ball joint to get the light right where you want it.

I'd mount it anywhere that's not over the sunroof of a car... fairly useless for many types of work as the car shadows its own tires.

I'm using regular twist CFL in my opener, even though they are not recommended.

Are we talking temporary lighting to get from the DD to the house door, or are we going to be out there for a while?
For the former, I just used the low cost halogen “work lights” mounted to the wall.
I have one aimed between the cars and another at the house door.
They come on instantly, are real bright, and with the door opener timer set to max I have about 5 minuets to get from the car to the house.

No, we're talking permanent interior lighting...if your not familiar with the LM3800 garage door openers...there are no lights up in the air where you would normally have em like on a normal Chain/Screw/Belt type unit because the opener itself is on the jackshaft. They supply a Fugly remote light unit...which I will modify to power a normal interior light. I was originally thinking a normal 4' T8 fixture. So where a normal opener would be, I'd have a 4' T8 fixture...but IMO they dont get bright enough, quick enough...

My plan was to do exactly what you are talking about. I was going to hard wire in 1 or 2 LR6-DR1000 can LED lights from Cree. Instant on and plenty bright enough depending on your coverage and ceiling height.

Hmm...hadnt thought about Can/LED Lights...love the idea...only concern would be if it would be enough light?

I've seen the Retrofit kits...I assume there must be some dedicated LED Cans out there as well?
