Hi,

I finally bought all the materials and ready to start the coat my garage floor with epoxy.

My question is if I want to add some color chips / flakes what is the proper way to do it?

Should I mix it with the epoxy and roll it on the same time or sprnkle those on top when after apply the epoxy?

Also I am preparing to use the acid method, apply primer (from the same manufacturer) then finish it off with epoxy on top (light grey).

Do I have to have a clear top coat or I can add color chips without it?

Thank you in advance!

Do not! mix them in the epoxy. It should be sprinkled on top as you go. Dont worry about rolling over a few as you go, just spread them after you do a small area.

You dont need a clear coat to use the chips, but it does make it look shinier.

FINGERTIPS! A pinch will do ya, LOL. We made a mistake with my floor and my wife used a fist full toss the first throw....uh oh....so I went HEAVY to cover it up, to me it looked terrible, there are some shots of it in sig link, but I covered them up with another top coat and had her use the finger tip method, less is more, if you need more, just throw a couple more pinches...you can always add more, its FAR more difficult to take them off once their down.

Good luck...

I'm doing my garage floor in the next week or two. I'm going to try placing a small bunch of flakes on a piece of cardboard and then blowing them off with my air compressor onto the floor. I think it will create a totally random effect.

Of course this idea came to me at about 1 in the morning, so I don't know if it is going to work or not...

Other posts talk about using a "shaker" to put them down. Lowes sells additional flakes in a jar with a shaker top (very similiar to Kraft parmesan cheese shakers). That's going to be my 2nd method to try.
