the pictured fan says to use the pictured switch. we already have an older 3 speed switch wired in to operate another fan. the plan was to add this one to the same circuit. does the fan absolutely require that electronic speed switch?

its not a good reliable old fashioned AC speed controller that will last for decades.

You need the switch if you want to change speeds, but you can't run two ceiling fans off a single regular switch. There are $pecial "multi-fan" switches if you want to run multiple fans from one switch.

Regular switches running multiple fans will cause them to horribly "hum."

Kind of ironic on the bump up of this thread.
well it turns out that the unit beside ours has been leased to a new tenant and they are doing major renovations . I helped them today install a new deadbolt lock in the steel man door . ( another story)
I asked them about the ceiling fan .... same as our existing . they gave it to me
