Complete SS Diamond Plate Floor?

Has anyone seen or installed a full garage floor with sheets of SS Diamond Plate? Could you screw or glue to concrete floor or build small wooden sub-floor? Seems could easily be sealed to make it waterproof. I suspect cost is a huge issue but other than that is it practical. A local Harley store had a large display area done like this and it looked pretty good. Comments?

Seems like it would scratch pretty easily when you drag a jack or step on a screw or whatever.

it would scratch as Jack said and would look pretty bad pretty quickly if the garage is actually used. But if its for a Harley, it could look good for decades.

It really depends on what you do with the floor and what you think you will do with it in the future, in the Harley shop they most likely carefully place the bike on the plate for cosmetics and help show off/sell the bike, in a real garage I doubt its feasible long term.

I think once younger over the actual cost of just the material and how you would install..you need to consider what you are using the garage for. It will show scratches easily, it may get pitted and/or etch with various chemicals, it may also dent.
But it would look cool when you first put it in, you know we like diamond tread. Good luck on your project

let see, you cant roll anything around on it, you cant jack anything on it, cant sweep or mop it. cant knee on it. everything be unlevel falling over

When you say SS, do you mean stainless steel? I don't know that I've ever seen stainleess steel diamond plate, I bet it would be VERY expensive.

As for aluminum diamond plate, used for flooring... maybe in a store fixture or display exhibit. But not in a garage. Or at least one you would do anything more than walk in.

When I was in the Navy, we had a steel diamond plate floor in our Weld Shop. Of course it is much easier to install when all you have to do is weld it down to a steel deck. It would be difficult to install on a concrete floor, but you could drill countersunk holes, install expansion anchor bolts through the holes, cut off the bolts flush with the plates, then weld the plates to the anchors and weld up the seams. We cleaned our floor using a floor scrubber/buffer with the brush attachment and Comet powder moistened with a little water. I suppose you could polish it with polishing compound if you wanted it to be shiny. Seems like an expensive way to floor a garage, but definitely could be done.

Other than looking cool I'd have to have a reason to spend that much money. At the Fisher Body plant I worked at we had flat steel floors to slide trunk lids on. On subs that I worked on at the shipyard the deck plates were diamond plate steel in the engine room and torpedo room. Are you planning on loading torpedoes?

Aluminum diamond plate is about 100 bucks for a 4x8 sheet 1/16" thick. I would believe that stainless would be much more expensive.


Practical, I would say no.

Thanks all. I guess practicality trumps cool!! I don't really do any work in the garage...just wanted a cool place to show off the bike.
