Compressor Install Advice Needed

I have recently picked up a Devair TAPV-5052 air compressor for my home garage. It puts our roughly 20 CFM @ 175 PSI. I realize that this compressor is a little big/heavy duty for my use, but I wanted something reliable, parts support, repairable, quiet (635 RPM operation).

I will be using this for impact guns, grinders, sanders, some painting, sandblasting and winterizing my sprinkler system.

The compressor will be in the basement approx 20 feet away from where it will be connected to the garage (house is attached to garage, just plumbing the line from basement ceiling to garage floor). Temp is reasonably stable (heated basement), just seasonal changes in humidity 80% to 55%.

The output from the compressor is 3/4 inch. I will not be using any of the electric dryer/cooler units.

My plan is:
electric drain solenoid (set on 45 minute timer, draining into sump pump well)
copper pipe
one drop inside the basement before entering the garage (small work area in basement)
one hose reel in garage
two drops at my garage workbench

My questions are:
-what diameter copper pipe should I use
-what inline filters to use if any (it seems most cheap filters have 1/2 inch input/output)
-could I get away with only an air dryer from Princess Auto? (note is 1/2 inch output/input http://www.princessauto.com/pal/en/Compressor-Components/Air-Dryer/8055757.p
-how many regulators should I use?
-if I wanted to put the princess auto air dryer in the system I would have to do a Z pattern up the first wall the compressor is installed on (in order to get what I believe is enough length of pipe to cool/condense the moisture before the dryer and still drain the water back to the tank

Link for specs. http://www.idaircompressors.com/app/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=286&category_id=8&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

Any help and feedback is appreciated.

Barry

Wow, nice compressor for DIY home use !!

Can't go wrong with 3/4" mainline and 1/2" drops for normal use. If you're planning on lots of sand blasting, then you can spend the money for 3/4" overkill to the blaster (it is YOUR money) . . . :D

I'd recommend your airline system in garage still go up around ceiling perimeter so you'll have best chance of dry air. Have your airline system and drops designed to capture water quickly & remove it. Search GJ for the thread by Strouty that has lots of good information.

With your compressor in basement, you could do all kinds of cool stuff like inter-cooler . . . or. . . after-cooler (ie see thread by Alan Camby) . . . or Franzinator . . . etc . . depending on how hard you load the compressor.

Great compressor - nice purchase. That will last a lifetime.

I followed the tptools plans with each drop going up before down. See here for plans. It works great. I get absolutely no moisture by the time the air gets to the tool. It was a pain to do but I'm very glad I did it. Search for tptools and you will find lots of discussions.

Good advice.

Here is my opinion. Go with 3/4" pipe, it may be overkill but it's not that much more money wise and you will have the capacity to run bigger stuff if you ever need to down the road. I like "point of use" filters, putting the filters at each drop. This lets the air cool a little getting to the filter and also filters the air at the very end. But this usually means more filters depending on how many drops you have. Buy quality filters on ebay. I bought a bunch of NOS industrial filters for what it would have cost me to buy the cheap **** from the box stores. I don't remember the seller but they had tons of industrial filters of all shapes and sizes. I have probably close to 1500 dollars in filters for about 150-200 bucks.
