Compressor project question

Hi all,

I was wondering if any knowledgeable compressor folks could help me with a project I'm working on.

I recently purchased an old 5hp 220v 2-stage compressor mounted on a horizontal 80 gallon tank. The tank appeared to be pretty beat up and sounded suspect, so I located a decent used 60-gallon vertical tank. The problem is that the way that the pump and the motor on the old tank was spaced, I can't just move the motor and pump over to the new tank and maintain the same belt size. In fact, I'm pretty sure I can't mount the tank and motor on the new tank without having only 1" of clearance between the pump flywheel and the motor.

Spacing issues aside, I was wondering if the additional size/weight of the 2-stage pump and motor would be an issue on the smaller vertical tank, and if I did manage to mount the pump and motor, how I would go about getting a properly sized belt for the new setup. Would only having 1" clearance between the motor and the flywheel be an issue?

Any help/advice would be appreciated....

can you weld? cut the pump and motor mount off of the 80 gallon tank and weld it on the mount for the 60 gallon tank. do not weld to the tank, only the bracket for the pump and motor.

Belt would be no problem. Just cut the old one and use it as a template. Pics would probably help on the spacing.
