Compressor regulator?

Hi everyone, finally registered here, gots mucho info, thought...why not. Browsing through the different threads, I have a question of my own. I think my compressor regulator is shot. When I use it, the tank fills up fine, no leaks anywhere. Let's just say I am blowing off parts, air shoots out of the nozzle fine, quickly dies. Release trigger, hose quickly fills up and shoot again. I want to check with you all to make sure I am on the right track here, and replace the regulator.

Thanks

Nope, compressor stays off until the pressure gets low in tank. I will check with a different hose, I'll see if the neighbor has one.

Let you know in a bit.

O.K., I connected a different hose and still open trigger and release air, which empty's hose and have I to release trigger and allow the hose to fill with air. The compressor does not have to come on until the tank drops down. Should I disconnect the line going into the regulator to check also?

You very well could have a bad regulator, but that may not be the problem. What you have going on is a flow restriction. It could be rust at the outlet of the tank or blocking the input to the regulator. Do you have a filter in the system? Are you getting air from the bottom of the tank or are you pulling it from the side or top of the tank? Is there a shutoff valve in the system that could be partially closed. So find where the restriction is that prevents full flow.

Thanks Larry I will check it out in more detail tomorrow. I have plenty of teflon tape, so I am ready to start.

I forgot I had a regulator and filter for my modeling airbrush so I swapped out the old regulator and put this one in and the compressor works like a charm. I can hold the nozzle trigger and it will shoot air until the pressure comes on. Now I have to see if I can remove the little moisture from the tank. I guess I don't have to look for a compressor replacement.

Thanks v7guy and larry_g for your help.

Straight off the regulator, thanks for asking.

I like that advise Doc, I was browsing at Lowes last night, not much of a selection.
