So I am down to the end of my floor prep and repair. We have skim coated about 180 square ft of floor with a polymer modified patching cement from a local coatings supply company. That worked alright, took a fair amount of practice to make it work out well, the areas that didn't got a full grind anyway so the blemishes for the most part are gone. We had an area roughly 3' x 5' that needed a much more extensive repair, it was done with 100% solids epoxy and 60 grit sand, took about 5 gallons of epoxy and a 100 lb bag of sand. My 19 yr old son has hand ground the entire floor both to prep for finish and to level out any problem areas in our repairs. We rented an Edco 10" 11 HP turbo grinder, what a disaster. Turned out the wheels on the rental unit were very worn down causing the grinding head to no sit flat on the floor and after the dust cleared we found we had really deep gouges in a nice arcing pattern all over the floor. Long story short we are both tired of this and ready to put down the finish. If the entire floor is ground there is no need to do an acid etch is this correct?
