Here's a thought, probably geared (pun intended) toward newer members like me. The search function in the forums (forae??) work very well, but sometimes lead you to posts from several years ago. Somone with the coveted (by me, anyway) reciprocating widget Mark II who had it for sale four years ago may still have it, and still be willing to sell, but not doing much on GJ any more, and therefore not seeing the PM's or replies to the post I sent.
It should be possible to put in a contact feature that would allow a regular email to be sent to the member. For privacy, I would expect it to be a blind email; the other member would see my email address (or GJ screen name), but I would not see his. Then, he could reply or ignore. Limit of maybe 2 contact attempts?
Knowing the little I do about programming, it sounds very complicated, but surely I can't be the first to have thought of such a thing. Might be an easy plugin or (dare I use an overused term?) upgrade.
Just a thought.

Yes, PM's work great, but only if the member checks for them!

A blind email query would increase the chances of making contact while preserving the not-so-active member's privacy.
