Contractor string lighting?

I purchased a 5-bulb, 50-foot, string of temporary contractor lights to run overhead in my shop.

The package emphatically states not to use as permanent lighting and to unplug when not in use.

To my untrained eye, they look to be of better quality than the florescent fixtures that are there now.

They are ‘kinda’ temporary since I don’t spend near as much time out there as I would like and there is a switched overhead outlet.

Am I inviting trouble by using these as my shop lights, or am I just being a worrywart for even giving it a second thought?

Yes your inviting trouble. Those things get batted and hit all the time on the job. They are removed after real lighting is brought on line.

You gut check is correct, it can be a temp. situation! It can not be a final solution. Following the directions is at times so hard to do.

Well it's also a building code issue, you won't try to sell your estate with those in there just as an example.

If you in a neighberhood assoc. or even in close quarters living someone could drop a roll of quaters on you.

Besides how can you show off your fine wears under daisy chained lights!

You can only use this lighting in your shop if your name is Poor Bob and you sell christmas trees.

it is also re used on jobs over and over. id put a plug on it and just plug it in when you want light. that stuff can be on one job for a few years in many situations with no issues.
