What is the correct way to ship a vise? Does anyone have any suggestions or pics on how to correctly ship a vise without it getting chipped or broken? I think pics and advice would help alot of people with this problem.
Like this; these two pics tell the tale, GManBart rocked this shipment!
Build this and secure accordingly;
Then cover like this in a standard heavy duty carton (this one could be found at HD):
This shipment weighed almost 50lbs and shipping cost was a lil over $40 from MI to the MS gulfcoast via fedex ground, in comparison I have received baby wiltons in a usps flat rate medium size box and the shipper paid almost $25...YMMV!
Correct way? Why ship it to me of course. In seriousness. Look into shipping via Fastenal. I found it far cheaper than the UPS. Make a wooden crate for it, brace so it can not move and is secure.
Definitley lots of layers of cardboard or a combo of cardboard and foam, foam with packing tape wrapped around it works very well because foam keeps a nice thick barrier between the outer layer of a shipping box, its also much lighter than using wood like above ^
