Cost of insulation

Have a 30 x 40 x 14' high walls, 2 x 6 construction so lots of space to fill with insulation. Got a quote for blown in fiberglass insulation and R49 in the attic. Also was thinking of insulating 30' of interior 2 x 4 wall. Quote total was $3714 with the interior wall done with unfaced fiberglass batts. Removing the interior wall only lowered the quote to $3551.

I realize the blown in is a lot more work, more volume, and fills voids better so more effective. But it still sounds high. What's a typical cost for this?

The typical cost will be solved by getting another bid.
Shipping and labor and tax costs outside of your very county/town will be different than anyone here can respond.

I can tell you Banker, a chain here out west, I don't know where all they're located, supplied everything and installed mine cheaper than I could buy the raw material.

Until you source the material and compare costs.

This is quite common around here too. Many times you can hire the insulating job done for less money than you would pay for just the insulation to do it yourself.

I need to get another quote. I did think about doing a rough estimate of cost of materials as a reference point but really would rather get someone to do it as long as it's reasonable (of course that is open to interpretation too...)

Did the walls of my 40x60 12' myself with faced batts for about 900$. doing blown in in The attic gonna be about 1100$ and a days work.

also forgot we installed the baffles for the eaves prior to installing the ceiling so that saved quite a bit of effort

There are too many variables in this equation to attempt to make any thing resembling a reasonably close guess.

I suggest you contact Sears and have them send out an estimator, the estimate should be free and it will give you a reference point for comparison.

My recommendation would be finding houses under construction and asking the supervisors who they use...

My shop is too clogged with stuff, and I don't have wads of money to spend, so the contractor route is out. Paying interest while you pay it off undermines savings you think you got.

I fill my pickup with 6-10 bundles and install them over the next several months. When they're used up, I do it again. I'm a homeowner, not a builder.

For R49 in the attic, I think that sounds pretty good. Thats some critical volume over a building that big. I think I spent $300 just to put 6" (R19) in the attic of my 24x25...
