Craftman Block Grinder Stator (Field?) coil wire help

Hi guys, finally got around to putting the block grinder back together after painting and sourcing replacement parts and then forgetting about the project for a few months. Went to put the stator (or is it field?) coil back in-between the halves and realized the wires were worse than I remember. Besides appearing to be aluminum (or ancient copper), the insulation is toast. The stranded wire is exposed where the wires come out of the magnet. I put shrink tubing on one that was split higher up, but the other one looks like the insulation is gone at the base. I can probably shrink tube it till the magnet but I worry about the exposed wire below that level.

I don't know if that can short across to the copper windings, but it seems like a bad thing. Any suggestions? Liquid electrical tape maybe? Can a motor shop replace those wires? Just find a new stator?

It's your standard 1/3 hp block grinder if that makes a difference.

You might be able to get some of the electrical grade varnish (used on the windings to insulate) at an electrical supply to try and penetrate down into the wiring.

That's what I would try.

I do wonder, however, about the copper oxide (green color) on the wires.

First, I'd try something like Caig Labs ---> DeoxIT® DN5 Mini-Spray, nonflammable 5% solution 14 g | $13.31 at Amazon.

That would be my call too. I haven't found any aluminum in the ones I've worked on.
