Craftsman 5169 help

Greetings, I’ve spent several days reading through all the craftsman vise restorations. I picked this 5169 up recently. For the most part it seemed in really good shape but after breaking it down the vise nut/spindle nut? needs attention.

The other posts I’ve read address broken base plates and jaw pads I’ve not seen one with a fix on the nut.

Anyone used another brand for a replacement? Or machine it down and attach the threaded portion to machined block? I don’t have a lathe or mill so a fix not needing machining is ideal but I want to fix it right.

I’ve searched eBay, Craigslist, and FB marketplace for used parts but no go so far. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't see anything obvious in your photos that say there is a problem with the spindle nut. What is the issue?

I’m assuming it had broken in the past. The prior owner had welded the snot out of it front and back and had welded it to the metal pin that sticks from the bottom. The welds were cracking and the piece was pulling loose and towards the front of the vise. I’ve seen the piece called a Vice nut and spindle nut forgive me but I’m not sure the proper name.
