Hello guys,

I'm about to buy this Craftsman Drill Press 2 HP.

However i want to use a 27mm drill bit with 22mm mounting shaft and the original chuck only accepts up to 5/8"
Do you know if there is an existing replacement chuck for this drill press? or what do you suggest?

Thanks!
Katriel

I'm sure they are out there. The most important thing you have to figure out is the chuck mounting taper. Once you do that finding the proper chuck is simple. Just don't come back here and say your on a $25 budget.

A 7/8" Chuck is going to be a monster and expensive. Is the 27mm drill available with a 1/2" or 5/8" shank?

Here's a 1" Chuck. It weighs 8#. And a 5jt. That's the other half of the challenge. What taper is the existing chuck? Guessing 3jt or similar. It you have a morse taper in the spindle, you might be able to find an adapter. But there's another, better, option. A taper shank drill.

Look for Silver & Deming drill bits, my set from Harbor Freight has 1/2" shanks and drill holes in sizes up to 1".

Generally costs less to buy a new drill bit with a shank that fits into the drill chuck instead of buying a new large shank capable chuck (and any possible taper adapters needed to fit between the chuck and the drill press).

As mentioned (complete with a link to purchase such a drill bit, albeit at 'list' and 'industrial' type pricing) a standard reduced shank (aka Silver and Deming) drill bit. With a 1/2" (12mm) shank to fit in the 5/8" drill chuck.
