Its been over 9 years since you posted your message above, but I'll give it a try.

I have one of these torque wrenches. It took a lot of grip strength to get the handle to turn, at first. It finally freed up and now turns easily at the lower end of the torque settings. At 60 lbs. and above there is a great amount of resistance. Externally, the tool looks in really great condition. I was told that it sat about 30 years at the 60 lb. setting. My best guess is that moisture got inside and corroded the threads of the screw shaft. The **** of the tool is sealed (lead filled?) so I am not sure how to approach the service repair. Care to share your thoughts?
