Sears has these on sale this week... 2PC locking pliers, craftsman professional, $15. Is it a good deal? My big concern is melting the grips while welding or using the torch.

I have one of those. And while I prefer Vise-Grips, the Cman actually seems a little heavier. I never used it in high-temp conditions, so I cannot comment on that. For $15, you really cannot go wrong. If it melts, take it back and get a new one!

Just don't buy those stupid laminated/riveted Cman locking pliers. Whose idea were those things anyway???!!!!

I prefer Craftsman pliers in a great many instances but when it comes to locking pliers I'll take the Vise Grip plier every time.

Just get visegrips. I played with them when I was looking ot buy locking pliers and I just said "lets get the original" They havent changed in 80+ years, and Ive seen visegrips 2-3 times as old as me still going strong. The design is proven, the craftsmans arnt. YOuc an pick up visegrips for fairly cheap if you look for a sale.

I've had a pair of the cman pros for a while and the plastic grips are nice when you have to get a REALLY tight grip on something, like a rounded off bolt or something. They release very nicely too. The rubber grips are pretty far down the pliers to worry about torching them. I figure if there is a risk of torching the grip, my hands going to torched as well.

In my opinion Vise Grip brand Vise Grips are the only locking pliers worth using.
