Craftsman Tools at Menards

While grabbing the Midwest aviation snips that were part of the Menards Made in the USA sale today, I looked across the aisle and saw this:

This was at the Menards in Schererville, Indiana. Anyone else see Craftsman tools for sale at their local Menards, or heard news about it?

Also, this does not come up on the craftsman.com or sears.com websites. So it seems to be a kit that's just for Menards. Price seems a bit high too.

Also, feel free to speculate and argue about whether this means that Craftsman will be splitting from Sears. I'll pop some popcorn and watch. :lol_hitti

I bought that 104 piece set at Ace Hardware for $39.99, when it was on sale.

Without a look inside I cant be certain its the same set, but I bought one that I believe is identical at Sears in 2008 for $50 during their summer sale.

Craftsman is reputed to be the second most recognized brand name in the United States.

Without getting into all the drama about the recent "10 companies most likely to fail in 2011" report, it makes sense, as others have said, to continue the brand name as a separate entity...if in fact they are planning on Sears' demise. Menards would probably be a likely retailer...though Menards seems to be trying to improve their Masterforce house brand to where it's a separate respected brand name, too.

I would guess this is just an old Craftsman closeout set. Menards has it on special at 3x the price. Great deal (sarcasm)

Was at one of the Appleton Menard's stores today, and they had the same deal there. It was at an end cap. Allen , Tool Shop, and Gearwrench \, and Masterforce, were in a regular tool section at front of store.

I also noticed Craftsman for sale in the latest Summit catalog. Craftsman is trying to push the brand pretty hard these days.

You got it. That's New Old Stock. The local manager probably purchased it in a container sale or something similar and is trying to turn it around.

I was in the Schererville store on Thursday night but didn't see that. Wonder how long the Sears Hardware store next door to it will last if Menards gets the full Craftsman line.

I have been a lurker and decided to join today to add a bit.

I just went to Menards today (Central Illinois) and they had Craftsman. Appliances/Electronics and Craftsman are the few money makers for Sears. It is the same stuff I see at the local Ace, so my guess is they are getting what Ace get.

I was surprised to see they sell Craftsman tools at the military Base Exchange (AAFES). The good thing about buying on base is that it's tax free.
