Just acquired this Curtis compressor. Working fine. I calculate the tank to be about 2.8 gallons (7" diameter, 17" long). The motor shown is not original, but it's a 1936 G.E.
My questions are:
1) What can be learned from the "940 6398" on the ID plate? Is it possible to date it?
2) What would the original rated pressure have been?
3) Any opinions on what pressure would be "safe" without properly testing it? Regardless of the answer, I wouldn't go above 50 PSI anyway.
Thanks!
Pete
