Dannmar D7 Tripping Breaker

I just finished setting up my Dannmar D7 (got it from Bruce at babco - check the Costco/Dannmar thread) but it keeps tripping the breaker.

- I've got it on a dedicated 110 volt, 20 amp circuit
- Using 12 gauge extension cord 15' long
- Motor hums nicely for 1 or 2 seconds before the breaker trips

I've double and triple checked the hydraulic lines are connected in accordance with the instructions. Would reversed lines cause tripping?

I'm open to any suggestions here!

What are the elec requirements? 20 amp 110? If it could be used as 220 you should have installed 220. How long it the electrical run, a number 12 wire can only support around 35 feet at 20 amps(110) and you have a 15 foot extension cord on it already(220 can support 70 feet). I've had several compressors and other items that would run on 20 amp 110 circuit but they would trip the breaker sometimes(heck almost all the time on a air compressor I had). It could also be a bad breaker, might be the easiest thing to check that first.

You can always put a clamp on type ampmeter on one wire off the breaker that trips inside the breaker panel to measure the actual amp draw. Only then you will know if you have to up the wire gauge and breaker rating.

Do you know if the motor is turning, or just humming and stalled when power is supplied? If it doesn't turn, it will trip the breaker. In that case, you likely have either a bad motor, or something preventing the motor from turning.

The length should be fine provided its on 12 wire, It should hold on a 20 for a few starts, you said humms nicely, it is working for that time then and not stalled?

One of the benefits of 240V is lighter cord/cable can be used. But, if I was sure the motor want stalling or dead heading the pump I might try a light cord, 25 ft of 16 just to slow up the breaker trip speed a bit and see if it holds.
